1965 Grand Final Essendon Bombers - AFL

Recovered from its dusty vault after more than 30 years, the 1965 VFL Grand Final showcased two great and star studded teams. Essendon would win the flag from fourth position, only the thrid side to do so, defeating Geelong and Collingwood for the right to play St Kilda in the Grand Final. This was a mighty Bombers side. Coached by John Coleman, led inspirationally by Ken Fraser and featuring players of class like Barry Davis, the verteran Jack Clarke, John Birt, Hugh Mitchell, the rugged Ian Shelton and Don McKenzie. St Kilda had topped the ladder and was looking for its first premiership in 68 years. Coached by Allan Jeans, led by Darrel Baldock and starring Carl Ditterich, Allan Morrow, reiging Brownlow Medallist Ian Stewart and Verdun Howell, this was a St Kilda side of quality. 104,000 saw the 1965 Grand Final. For many, this is their first chance to see it again.
